Fueled by $30,500 in grants given on January 14, 2021 by the Austin Food & Wine Alliance (AFWA), seven Central Texas culinary innovators will receive funding to help realize their dreams. Combined with $14,000 in COVID-19 relief given in June 2020, the Alliance has given $44,500 in grants to support Austin food systems this year.

Now in its ninth year, the Alliance’s grant program is the first in the nation to provide funding to support culinary innovation that contributes to the local community. It is intended to support chefs, farmers, wine-, beer-, and spirits-makers, artisan producers, food-focused nonprofits, and educational groups. The grants align with the Austin Food & Wine Alliance’s mission to foster education, awareness, and innovation in the Central Texas food and wine community.

The nonprofit received 20 grant applications this year and awarded $30,500, despite the challenge of being unable to hold fundraising events during the pandemic. Seven grants were given, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. Including today’s grants and the relief funds given earlier this year, the Alliance has given $367,500 — more than a quarter of a million dollars — to Austin culinary innovators in support of initiatives that give back to the community.
