Whenever you’re using your rafter center-line locator for the first time for the day, you should calibrate it to be sure your tool is accurate.
The first step is to make sure that your key head is flat in comparison to the main body. If this is twisted, then your calibration will be off from the start.
Once you’ve got that set, pull your alignment pin out from the back of the indicator key, and fully extend the key back out.
Then you’ll fully insert your alignment pin into the hole in the key head, and make sure your indicator wire is lined up with the alignment pin. If it isn’t, then you’ll twist the wire to line it up.
It’s important to note that your alignment pin will not touch the indicator wire, it will only line up with it.
When finished, remove the alignment pin and replace it back in its storage in the key head.
