You can also use a proto flexible shape pattern like Wray is using in the episode and it helps visualize just how much more needs to be done to get that fit correct. He uses the gathering tool to shrink the edges of the metal but also stretches deeper inside the panel using a beater bag and mallet to add the correct area value.
