Fly Fishing Wyoming for the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout!! The last fish for me to complete the Wyoming cutthroat slam.

Out of all of the places I’ve ever trout fished this might be the most ridiculous. I mean at first glance when you look into this Valley you may think “well there’s not even water down there” and honestly that wouldn’t be a bad guess. Even when you get up to the creeks in this area the most you can do is hear the water trickling under the overhanging grass, which hides everything underneath it. But that’s what’s most impressive… there ARE fish underneath that grass… and even some surprisingly large ones. The creeks in this video are probably some of the smallest I’ve ever fished, and the smallest I ever will fish. Welcome back to another video.

I was truly at a loss. I had one last cutthroat to catch in Wyoming to complete the slam, which was the Colorado River cutthroat, and I had spent hours driving around and found a creek that didn’t even have fish in it. And unfortunately I only had one day to chase these fish, so failure was a real possibility in my head. There’s also just not much water in Wyoming that holds these fish, and even the available data I was using was slim and apparently out of date. So I spent the next hour or two driving around once again, looking for good access to any creek that even had a vague chance at having fish in it. And what I found was pretty insane.

That’s about where I ended my day of fishing. If you like small creeks then I’m sure you enjoyed this video, because it doesn’t get much smaller than this. I spent most of my time just looking for a spot I could cast, and then when I found a spot I was just hoping it had a fish in it. Who knows how many fish were in that creek, or how big some of the fish in those holes were. Because make no mistake I spooked a few really good fish that I just couldn’t cast at. Overall I think catching the Colorado River cutthroat trout in Wyoming was one of the most unique experiences of this series so far just because I don’t think I’d have ever done it otherwise, and I can honestly say that the environment these fish live in is one of the most unique I’ve ever seen.
