Shell FRED 2022 will replace the software’s current version (Shell FRED 2020).


Shell FRED is a fire, release, explosion, and dispersion consequence modelling tool developed by Shell and available exclusively through Gexcon.

The new release includes updates in 3 main areas:


1. New models available


Completely updated and improved gas blowdown model, further improvements to the hydrogen dispersion model, missile generation calculations from pressure vessel failure, transient pool dispersion, and LNG flame impingement.




2. Extension to the feature-rich user interface


The interface has been further improved to work more simply and efficiently.


These include; a drag/drop interface to rearrange result tabs and map view, control of the units used to display results, functionality to associate a background image with a chart, better search & filtering of scenarios/fluids, more control of variants, and how they are displayed and a facility to importing/exporting custom fluids.




3. Complete migration of models from FRED 7.1


Pressure relief valve, Gaussian dispersion, TNO explosion, and smoke models will be available in Shell FRED 2022.
