Myanmar's Ongoing Civil War

Описание к видео Myanmar's Ongoing Civil War

On February 1, 2021, the Myanmar military, also known as the Tatmataw, conducted a coup against the civilian government, declaring the results of the November 2020 general election illegitimate and imposing a Marshall Law. State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and other prominent officials from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD party were imprisoned on charges of widespread fraud in the general election, which the NLD won by a big margin.
The coup provoked widespread protests, which grew into a huge anti-junta revolt, especially in ethnic minority-dominated regions. Those opposing the military administration have forged alliances that include ethnic groups and civilian-led defensive units, which intensified the internal civil conflict in Myanmar. Since 2021, the civil war has reportedly killed more than 5,000 civilians. Millions have been internally displaced, and the country's economy is in disarray. The ethnic rebel forces control over 60% of the nation's territory.
