Your Toyota Tacoma’s tail lights are essential for letting other drivers see that you're in front of them, especially in low-light or poor weather conditions. Some tail light bulbs even incorporate additional filaments to activate your brake lights or turn signals, signaling your actions on the road. For 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma models, it’s good practice to replace both tail light bulbs simultaneously, as they wear out at a similar rate. Tail light assemblies can be damaged in a collision, or may suffer wear and deterioration due to sun exposure, and should be replaced if they no longer protect the bulbs or become difficult for light to pass through. It is important to inspect and maintain your Tacoma’s lighting system to avoid potential safety risks. Follow these step-by-step instructions to change the tail light assembly on your 2005-2015 Tacoma to help keep your vehicle visible and safe.

How To Replace a Brake Light Assembly on a 2013 Tacoma
Hey everybody— Will here from O’Reilly Auto Parts to show you how to change a tail light assembly on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. Procedures will be similar for most Tacoma models from 2005 to 2015, but be sure to know the specifics for your vehicle before getting started.
Once you’ve got your supplies together, here’s what you’ll do:
Lower the tailgate.
You’ll see two bolts securing the assembly… one at the top and one at the bottom.
Use your ratchet and 10mm socket to loosen and remove the bolts.
To remove the assembly, pull directly outward on it toward the rear of the truck.
You can use a trim tool if needed to create separation and disengage the body alignment clips… just be careful not to damage your paint.
With the assembly detached, you’ll see a wiring harness connecting it to the truck
