Welcome to a great 16th-note workout. If you haven't been able to amp up your bass game for the faster rhythms then you need to do some good old fashioned knuckle busting.

To get into a daily routine where you can work in a smart, musical way to develop your fingerboard grip is a very good thing. And as I say in the lesson, if you follow my recommendations in this lesson you will also speed the process of getting your hands working together. That is a real secret that you rarely hear bass teachers talking about.

You know that slop you hear in your playing during faster rhythms? It's a real bummer when you hear that in playback!! It frequently comes because you haven't concentrated on developing that unity between your hands! It's a serious issue that all bass players who want to play at a high level - a nuanced artistic level - need to pay attention to.

This pattern is part of many 16th note bass lines. It is mainly the Count Basie tag but played as an ostinato pattern and then doubling the notes.

Make sure you experiment with combining the parts of this bass workout in ways that make the workout more personal for you. If you already have some stamina developed then feel free to double the length of the workout. If you are inclined to put more range into the workout you can easily add a move into the next octave as I showed in the lesson.

One of the main things to pay attention to is to stay relaxed in your shoulders when you are playing. If you are being challenged with the faster rhythms it is easy to tense up and you don't want to do that. You need to stay loose in your shoulders and let that relaxation flow into your hands and then make sure to experiment on using a lighter touch.

To develop a lighter touch with your pizzicato/fingerstyle technique is one of the smartest moves you will ever make. There are so many challenging bass lines out there that have faster rhythms, you will be amazed how much more accessible they become once you have a relaxed approach and a lighter touch.

Once you have had some success with using a lighter touch and also experimenting with the dynamics/accents as I show in the lesson you are then set to really dig in with studies in Dynamics that will completely transform your playing.
