スウォッチの「S」と、メルセデス・ベンツの「M」に、芸術「art 」を組み合わせた意味を持つスマートは、全長2.5m程度の超コンパクトボディながら、乗車定員2名が快適に過ごせる空間を持つシティ・コミューターである。
リヤに搭載される直列3気筒OHCエンジンはインタークーラー付きターボにより598ccの排気量から、最高出力 61ps(45KW)/5250rpm、最大トルク 9.0kg・m(88N・m)/2500-4000rpmを発揮。駆動方式はRR、トルクコンバーターを持たない、オートクラッチ式の6速マニュアルモード付きATである。
電動で開閉するオープントップは、3ウエイのバリエーションを楽しむ事が出来る。

The inline 3-cylinder OHC engine mounted on the rear demonstrates maximum output 61ps (45KW) / 5250rpm and maximum torque 9.0kg ・ m (88N ・ m) / 2500-4000rpm from 598cc displacement by turbo with intercooler. The drive system is RR, automatic clutch type AT with 6-speed manual mode without torque converter.

The open top that opens and closes electrically can enjoy 3 way variations.
