Dr. Gina Agiostratidou is the Program Director for the Helmsley Charitable Trust’s (https://helmsleytrust.org/) Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Program (https://helmsleytrust.org/programs/he..., which aims to advance research, treatments, technologies, and services that improve the life of people with Type 1 Diabetes.


Previously, Dr. Agiostratidou was the scientific program manager at the Children’s Tumor Foundation, bringing scientists from around the globe to collaborate on research opportunities in the field of neurofibromatosis. She has completed two post-doctoral fellowships at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Mount Sinai School of Medicine, focusing primarily on molecular biology and biochemistry.


Dr. Agiostratidou earned a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Medical School, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Greece, and an MSc degree in Advanced Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of London, UK. She recently earned her MBA from New York University, Stern Business School.


The Helmsley Charitable Trust was established in 2007 after the passing of real estate and hotel tycoon Leona M. Helmsley and aspires to improve lives by supporting exceptional efforts in the U.S. and around the world in health and select place-based initiatives.


The goal of the diabetes program is to improve the lives of all people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Working closely with key players across the T1D ecosystem – patients, physicians, caregivers, researchers, government agencies, funders, pharmaceutical companies, device makers, insurers, and community organizations – the Helmsley Charitable Trust seeks to improve care and ultimately prevent T1D and have made and committed almost $700 million in grants to date.
