Devprayag is the last Prayag or the holy confluence of the Alaknanda River, from here that the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River is known as Ganga.

The town is the seat of the pundits of Badrinath Dham. The meaning of Devprayag is Godly confluence as "Dev" man's god and "Prayag" means confluence.
The Ganges flows more than 2,500 kilometers (1,553 miles) before reaching the Bay of Bengal. Two of its main tributaries, the Alaknanda (muddy in the picture) and Bhāgīrathi (blue in the picture) meet Devprayag, in Uttarakhand, India.

Devprayag, where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet, was my last destination in my Panch Prayag Yatra. Devprayag is a beautiful place in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The confluence of Alaknanda river coming from Badrinath and Bhagirathi river coming from Gangotri is called Devprayag. After this confluence, the river is known as the river Ganges.
There are many mythological stories and beliefs associated with Devprayag. According to a legend, sage Devsharma had done severe penance to Vishnu at Devprayag. Pleased with his penance, Lord Vishnu said that in future this place will be known by your name. And since then this place got the name Devprayag. According to another legend, Lord Rama meditated for many years at Devprayag Sangam to get rid of the sin of killing Ravana.
At some distance from Sangam, there is a famous Raghunath Temple, which is said to be of the 10th century. This temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple was originally built by Adi Shankaracharya during the 8th century. And later this temple was expanded by the Garhwal kingdom.
Devprayag is a small town, you can cover it by walking. There are two suspension bridges made of rope from which you can cross Bhagirathi and Alaknanda river and go to the other side. By crossing the bridge, you can roam through the narrow streets of Devprayag market.
So this was my trip to Panch Prayag which first started from Prayag Vishnuprayag passing through Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag and ended at Devprayag.
