Описание к видео Why Dame Marilyn Waring wants public to have a say on the Equal Pay changes | Stuff.co.nz

The so-called People's Select Committee has been hearing submissions on changes to the Equal Pay Amendment Bill that was pushed through Parliament urgently earlier this year.

The controversial legislation raises the threshold for proving work has been historically undervalued when making a pay equity claim.

Most bills typically go to a select committee after the first reading for detailed examination, which might include public submissions. When the amendment bill didn't go through that process, protests erupted around the country.

Former National Party MP Dame Marilyn Waring, along with nine other female former MPs, were upset by the lack of debate and set up the People's Select Committee so interested parties could have their say.

Imogen Wells spoke to Dame Marilyn and asked her why she felt it so necessary for the public to have its say. | Subscribe: https://bit.ly/2JPg8oB
