A 50-year-old woman was brutally gangraped and murdered allegedly by three men including a priest and his two disciples on Sunday night in western Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district. The legal validity of the laws against unlawful conversions in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be examined by the Supreme Court, which issued notice to the two state governments today. A court in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore on Tuesday rejected bail applications of Munawar Faruqui and four other stand-up comedians arrested on January 1. Across India, lakhs of birds have been found dead in the last 10 days. At least four states- Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan- have confirmed bird flu, sounding an alert as the authorities step up efforts to contain the spread.
