The idea of ​​having to pay tax to cover their bodies was not only inhumane, it was a cruel attack on women's freedom. A lower caste woman named Nangali protested against this barbarity. Nangali belonged to the Ezhava community. One day, when the village landlord came to her house to collect tax for covering her breasts, Nangali cut off her breasts and gave them to the landlord. Nangali died due to excessive blood loss from cutting off her breasts. After her death, her husband Chiranand jumped into Nangal's funeral pyre and died.
