For decades, I believed my body had to be smaller to be worthy. That belief followed me from the Marine Corps, to disordered eating and bulimia, to extreme bodybuilding, to pageants, and it nearly cost me my health. This is the truth about dieting, body image after menopause, and what it really takes to build strength, strong bones, and longevity as a woman in midlife and beyond.
Today, I don’t diet, count calories, or starve myself trying to be thin. Instead, I focus on strength training, real food, muscle, balance, endurance, and healthy aging for women over 50 and 60. I care more about being sturdy, capable, and able to live fully than I do about a number on the scale. This is fitness after menopause that supports longevity, mobility, and real life.
Aging well isn’t about looking younger. Healthy aging is about building muscle, protecting bone density, improving balance, and staying strong enough to keep doing the things you love. If your body is changing in midlife or after menopause, strength over skinny is possible, and happy aging is possible too.
