Starting a horse under saddle with Clicker training: 3. The (Pre-) Mounting Block Lesson

Описание к видео Starting a horse under saddle with Clicker training: 3. The (Pre-) Mounting Block Lesson

The Mounting Block Lesson is a key lesson of Alexandra Kurland's training progression. Before thinking about sitting on your horse, you should try this lesson for safety.
I like to put the mounting block on the line around a circle of cones and have a mat in the centre of the circle.
I walk the horse around the circle of cones. As we pass the mounting block. I step up casually and check my horse's reaction. Does she get worried about the person suddenly appearing higher up? If not, you can continue (If yes, try with a lower block).
Then, as I am standing on the block, I ask my horse to yield her hips to turn, shift weight back and come forward, aligning herself next to me on the mounting block. I click when she is in a perfect position for mounting.
The video shows a first trial to see where the horse's starting point is. She can yield her hips and shift backwards. But she is still a little nervous.
It's not yet the moment to think about getting on her.
