A cinematic biographical music film about Tellef, born in Hornnes, Norway, in February 1888.
The film follows his life chronologically: his baptism in Hornnes Church, childhood at Hestvaag farm next to Kjetsaa, working as a sheep shepherd in the Setesdal valley, and his confirmation in 1902.

In 1907, young Tellef leaves Norway. He travels by train through the Norwegian landscape to Kristiansand, then by ship to Hull in Great Britain, continues by train to Liverpool, and crosses the Atlantic on the RMS Caronia to New York.

The story is told as a nostalgic, emotional song sung by Tellef himself. He is portrayed as a young, blond Scandinavian man, slim build, early 20s, kind eyes, simple clothing appropriate to 1900–1907.
