India's Strategic Missile Advancement: The Agni-Prime
India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), has successfully launched the Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher.
• Missile Type: Agni-Prime (Agni-P) is a new generation, nuclear-capable Medium-Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM). It is a surface-to-surface missile and is lighter than previous Agni variants.
• Rail-Based Mobile Launcher: This is a first-of-its-kind capability for India, placing it in a select group of nations (Russia, US, China, and possibly North Korea) with this technology.
◦ Advantages: Offers cross-country mobility, quick reaction time, reduced visibility for enhanced survivability, and self-sustained launch features.
