Transcript: I was presented with a project in which I needed to accommodate three things. I needed a desk that would integrate technology, mobility, and collaboration. What we had come up with after a visit to the showroom was a really nice nesting pod-style desk, but the desk itself was a little bit too small. It was more geared for K to 12.
We were also shown some other desks that had open and garage doors that would allow the desk to be flat or open, and a laptop could be utilized. So we had asked, could you create a desk for us? Could you customize this piece of furniture? Could you make it more for the higher ed setting? In order to obtain that—the style and design that we wanted—
The dealer had spent a considerable amount of time working specifically with me to find out what my requirements were. So we had a number of telephone calls. A number of sketches went back and forth until we were able to come up with a design, a size that would accommodate the classroom with 28 seats. In regards to mobility, what we really liked about this was that students could be in a group of two, could be in a group of four, six, eight—whatever was required by the instructor.
And that goes back to the flexibility that we needed. Any instructor, whatever their teaching style was, whatever the lesson plan was for that day, this classroom could accommodate it. We knew that one of the problems was going to be electricity. So we've actually had installed 125 power outlets into that room. We're so proud of this room. In fact, the director of academic technology has recently nominated us for an award with the Campus Technology Innovators.
