THE 2024 WHITNEY BIENNIAL: EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL THING

James Kalm has been posting YouTube video reviews on the Whitney Biennial since before it was allowed. One of his fondest memories was of being detained by security, and escorted out of the Museum’s 2008 edition of the show. His infraction was the attempted video reportage of the event. Since then, as with so many other things, the art world institutions have begun to see that there is a “cultural value” to individual’s documentation. “Even Better Than the Real Thing” is the eighty first-edition and features the works of seventy-one artists and collectives. The 2024 Whitney Biennial is organized by Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator and Meg Onli, Curator at Large, with Min Sun Jeon and Beatriz Cifuentes. It features works by: Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio, Dora Budor, Seba Calfuqueo, Demian DinéYazhi’, Torkwase Dyson, JJJJJerome, Jes Fan, Nikita Gale, ektor Garcia, Pippa Garner, Harmony Hammond, Sharon Hayes, Holly Herndon, Mat Dryhurst, Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich, Takako Yamaguchi et al.
