New shipping container homes are on the move, expanding from Indiana to Michigan.

WSBT first brought you the story last month as shipping container homes hit the market in Plymouth.

We haven't had much development in the area, but we're very eager and willing to learn,” said Vandalia Village President Evan Hickman.
In a small town with only 90 homes, Hickman is hoping the new container home development will attract more people and families to the community that hasn't seen any new development in years.

And now, they’re expanding to Cass County, Michigan to the Village of Vandalia.

We haven't had a new house built in the area in over 20 years. So I think it's about time to bring some new houses to the area so some families can enjoy Vandalia as well,” said Hickman.
Developer Thomas Landgrebe, who first brought his shipping container home business to Plymouth, is now excited to expand his project to Cass County.

He's looking to introduce about 55 container homes across the Village of Vandalia.

Right now, the village has promised him 30 acres of land next to the intersection of South Bogue Street and Camplite Street.

WSBT spoke with Vandalia leaders on Friday about their interest in welcoming these unique homes to their village.

The homes will range in price to match what the Village needs.

“Anywhere between say $90,000 and 220, 250, $300,000 somewhere in there,” said Shipping Container Home Developer Thomas Landgrebe.

WSBT asked Landgrebe if he plans to work with the board to come up with the pricing that makes sense for the community and meet them where they're at.

Absolutely, absolutely," said Landgrebe.
Hickman said his interest in the container homes is because of their durability, safety and sustainability.

We have a lot of things coming, but what we don't have is the housing. So, every house is like a huge win for the village,” said Hickman.

Village President Hickman said that they will have another board meeting to finalize zoning details and are hoping to see construction begin within the next two months.
