Hiking, Slot Canyons & A Scenic Drive! Our Day in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

Описание к видео Hiking, Slot Canyons & A Scenic Drive! Our Day in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

Every day we spent in Utah gave us another amazing experience. But the 8 hours we spent inside Grand Staircase was definitely some of our favorite experiences. We wish we had allowed another day to finish exploring this area and this is definitely at the top of our must do's when we return some day. Plus we could take Desi with us on our hikes which is always a plus!

We visited the National Monument on October 30, 2021.

There was no fee to access the National Monument but there was a $10 fee to enter Kodachrome Basin as it is a Utah State Park.

Although Johnson Canyon Rd and part of the road to Kodachrome was paved, the majority of our 90 miles were on dirt roads. A 4x4 and high clearance vehicle is recommended. We had talked to the visitor center in Kanab the day before and as it had not rained for a while, they said the roads were passable so we did not have trouble with the truck, which is not 4wd. But as this is a very remote place, we would not venture in without checking with the visitor center and if there was recent rain.

There are quite a few hikes in this area with slot canyons and we were lucky to do two of those - Lick Wash and Willis Creek. The Narrows is another popular hike off Cottonwood Rd and one of our biggest regrets is not coming back to do that hike! But again, we always recommend checking with the visitor center for current conditions.

We hope you enjoy this video. We started with almost 3 hours of footage so getting it down to only 20 minutes was a challenge! And the video doesn't even begin to really show the breathtaking views we experienced that day.

Upcoming videos we will have our time at Zion, Page, Cedar Breaks and the Grand Canyon.

As always - thanks for watching!
