The Pakistani government had the federal capital in a complete lockdown in response to a protest call given by opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan.

The party is protesting against the recently proposed constitutional amendments and the imprisonment of Imran.

All entry and exit points to Islamabad have been sealed with containers, and the Red Zone, home to parliament and key government offices, has been fortified with container walls reinforced by welding.

Authorities have deployed 6,000 police and paramilitary personnel across the city to prevent protesters from reaching D-Chowk, the site of the planned demonstration.
