Originally installed in the Hertfordshire country house of Sir Henry Capel, the Cassiobury staircase’s life has proven something of an odyssey. Part of the house was destroyed in a fire, and it was eventually demolished in 1927. The staircase, however, survived the destruction and made its way to The Met in 1932. Experience its recent de-installation and reconstruction during the renovation of The British Galleries in this time-lapse.
