Описание к видео Writing an Essay: The Body

The body of the essay is by far the longest part. When you’re assigned the dreaded 10-page report, most of those pages will be content that belongs to the body. It’s therefore ironic that the largest part of the essay is also the narrowest.
The information included in the body section will never go beyond the scope of the thesis. If it does, then that is often a sign of disorganization. No, this section will be deep, but it will not be wide.
The body of the essay contains the supporting arguments, research, narratives, and other elements that prove the central claim found in the thesis. An effective way to structure body paragraphs is to always build them with the thesis in mind. This does not mean to repeat the thesis in every paragraph, but it does prevent any supporting argument from effectively displacing the primary argument as the audience’s focus.
This structure begins with its own topic sentence that presents a supporting idea. It then provides an explanation of this idea and any important sources relevant to the point it is trying to make. Once the supporting idea been sufficiently presented or argued, the body paragraph begins to transition to the next point.
Transitions are often thought to be an ethereal quality of the essay. A well-organized essay had transitions, while a poorly organized essay did not. This is fundamentally true, but it is not an adequate explanation of a transition.
Transitions are most effectively accomplished by tying each new point into the central thesis of the essay. The goal of a transition is to demonstrate the relationship between two points. What better way of doing that than by ensuring your audience sees their most obvious connection: the point you just made and the point you are going to make both support the overarching argument.
There are, of course, useful words and turns of phrase that are conducive to winding down your paragraph while preparing for the next one, but no clever sentence can make up for leaving the connection between supporting arguments broken.
The body of the essay consistently reverberates the theme of the thesis. This is an important quality for strong, structured, and persuasive writing.
