When the junta hiked fuel prices, U Gambira seized the moment. Peaceful marches led to public beatings of revered monks, sparking widespread outrage. Protesters shielded monks as solidarity surged. U Gambira's group requested an apology; when denied, they disrupted military merit-giving, exposing hypocrisy.

Yet, the revolution ended in brutality. U Gambira endured arrest, torture, and prison for years. He persisted, surviving on hunger strikes. Upon release, he found no safety even under a democratically elected government. Marrying and moving to Australia, he remains a beacon of resistance.

While the Saffron Revolution lives on, U Gambira now contemplates the limits of non-violence. Disappointed by minimal international support, he reluctantly suggests alternative approaches. He remains dedicated to Burma's freedom, acknowledging the pain of potential change but believing that the people's power can overthrow tyranny.
