A simple way of making a ferrate solution:
A colloidal suspension of Fe(OH)3 is made by oxidizing a FeSO4 solution with NaOCl. Then it's made alkaline by adding Na2CO3 (I didn't have any more NaOH at the moment I made this vid, but it worked that way as well :D), heated, oxidized with further NaOCl and finally filtered.
To show that it's a strong oxidizer, NH3 is added and oxidized to N2.
