NEXUS – Offline Multimodal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) System

Overview

NEXUS is an advanced, offline multimodal RAG solution tailored for secure intelligence environments like NTRO.

Provides unified semantic search and intelligent summarization across PDF, DOC, scanned/image files, screenshots, and recorded audio.

Supports real-time exploratory analytics for classified, air-gapped contexts.

Key Components & Workflow

1. Unified Query Interface

Accepts natural language questions via chat/search box.

Allows upload of text documents, images, and audio recordings.

Dynamically understands query intent for cross-format retrieval.

2. Multimodal Ingestion

Extracts text from PDFs/DOC files using PyMuPDF and python-docx.

Processes images via Tesseract OCR and visual feature extraction.

Transcribes audio using Whisper, tagging content with rich metadata: page, paragraph ID, bounding box, or timestamp.
