Coffee Table Makeover

Описание к видео Coffee Table Makeover

We decided the coffee table I made a little over a year ago wasn't quite big enough. My idea to enlarge the coffee table was to cut the coffee table in half lengthwise and add another piece to the width. Luckily, I had another piece of wood from the same tree, so the piece that I added matched very well. I also reshaped this new piece to match the curvy shape of the underside of the table. The other thing we wanted to do was make a more interesting top for the table. I thought about a couple of different designs. One being two pieces of wood with a curved seam between the two. Another being a zipper pattern made with segmented pieces of wood. But what I ended up doing was an M.C. Escher inspired piece that transforms between fish and birds. It makes a very beautiful coffee table top. The top just sits on top of the table in a giant mortise which is a cutout on the underside of the new top. The top is made with maple and walnut to give a strong contrast between the light and dark wood.
