➡️ This summer, I’ll be hosting a one-week art retreat in my beautiful country, in France, and I’m happy to invite you to join !

I know that not all of you can participate but I still wanted to make sure to let you know here, in case someone is interested.

I almost never do things like that because I’m pretty bad at organizing events, but, here, I’ve been contacted by Uptrek, a company that makes amazing art retreats. They take care of everything so that I can focus on the best part: making art with you.

So I thought: “Ok, let’s do it and let’s it in France !” And they’ve found the most incredible venue: We’ll be staying and working in a gorgeous French château in the Loire Valley, surrounded by nature and history — and completely focused on painting and creativity. I’ve never painted in a place like that and quite frankly, I’m so excited.

This retreat is all about painting the live model in oils, and really taking the time to go through the full process — from that very first block-in drawing to a finished, expressive painting. We'll cover gesture, proportion, values, color mixing, brushwork… all the good stuff. We’ll also have a dedicated space for more personalized side projects, tailored to what you want to explore.

And of course, it’s not just about painting. It’s more than a simple workshop. Something that, quite frankly, I could never set up by myself : we’ll have amazing food, time to relax, talk about art, get inspired, and just enjoy being in a truly magical place. Good company in a beautiful setting.

➡️ The Core Curriculum: Figure Painting from Life

At the heart of the retreat is the live model. Students will work daily in our dedicated model room, producing a complete figure painting over the course of the week. You'll be guided through each step of the classical painting process:

◆ Initial drawing with an emphasis on gesture and proportion
◆ Underpainting to establish structure and value
◆ Color studies to explore atmosphere and tone
◆ Final painting, where technique meets expression

➡️ Tailored Side Projects for Personal Exploration

When not working with the live model, students will have the opportunity to pursue personalized side projects in a second adjoining studio space. These projects are fully adaptable to each participant’s goals and experience level. Some possibilities include:

◆ Working from plaster casts to refine drawing accuracy
◆ Developing a still life to study composition and lighting
◆ Engaging in color mixing exercises to improve palette control
◆ Creating a composition project based on imagination or reference

Throughout the week, instruction will cover a range of vital topics, including:

◆ Drawing, gesture, and proportions
◆ Value structure and palette preparation
◆ Color mixing and rendering of skin tones
◆ Modeling and blending of the form
◆ Brushwork, paint handling, and effects

With two dynamic studio spaces running in parallel — the model room and the side-project room — this retreat offers the ideal setting for focused learning, creative discovery, and personal artistic evolution.
