If Self Love is our birthright, why is it that most of us struggle to truly love ourselves?

We are born with a deep instinctual sense of self love. It’s what drives our survival instinct, it guides us towards pleasure and away from pain.

Sadly most have developed limiting beliefs over the years, me included. Things like,

‘I need to be perfect to be loveable’
‘I need to be good to be loved’
‘I need to achieve, to deserve love and attention’
‘I’m not enough’

We have forgotten that fundamental TRUTH - that we are made of LOVE, that we need do nothing to LOVE OURSELVES, that we are always deserving of LOVE, giving and receiving in equal measure.

The 21st century has really knocked our self love into a deep hole, shot at it, stomped on it and burned it !!

We compare ourselves unfavourably to others
Our inner critic shouts loudly
We have learned that LOVE IS CONDITIONAL
That LIFE is a continual struggle to achieve, to attain, to win … and that if we get lucky we may eventually feel ‘ok’, but we never seem to quite make it.

No wonder we put ourselves last
Forget to take care
Overlook our own needs
Numb and distract ourselves … so we don’t have to face the ‘person inside’ that we are afraid to share with the world.
