A prolonged drought and a hot summer season in the southern hemisphere have caused numerous forest fires raging in Chile. Large-scale fires have already engulfed 7 regions of the country.
The worst situation is in the Los Sauces commune in La Araucanía, where more than 440 hectares of territory have burned and three members of the fire brigade have died. An emergency evacuation of the population from the settlements to which the fire is approaching has been declared in the region.
Another emergency situation has affected the El Canelo sector in San José de Maipo, where more than 250 hectares have been destroyed by fire. The situation is complicated by dry, windy weather and mountainous terrain, which makes it difficult to deliver firefighting equipment.

The National Service for the Prevention and Response to Natural Disasters has declared a state of emergency in the affected regions. Local authorities are working to mitigate the effects of the fires and prevent new ones.
