DIY - How to make felted wool balls for outdoor Christmas tree, fast and easy

Pull off pieces of local wool
Pull wool and place loose tufts onto polystyrene balls
Use polystyrene balls so that they don’t weigh if it rains or snows
Roll the wool tightly
Add your next piece of wool changing your direction and wrapping tightly
Secure wool end with felting needle
Felt your ends a bit to help with the round ball shaping
Keep changing your directions as you roll and tuck in ends

You will need panty hose or knee high stocking
Place hand in stocking
Grab hold of ball and pull stocking over the ball
Place hand back in stocking and push ball into toe of stocking
Tie a knot and add second ball

Cut off knotted end of stocking

Put into a hot wash and don’t forget your laundry soap, it help with the felting process. When the wash is finished put the balls into the dryer.
Peel away stocking for the final reveal

Balls are nice and firm!

Decorate the wool balls with Christmas motifs, using coloured wool and the felting needle.
