Welcome to the first lesson in learning piano with me! Let me begin with introducing myself and my background. I've been playing piano on and off for the last 10 years. I'm self taught, with the help of several YouTube channels and friends that helped me. I used to teach piano one-on-one and group classes too but I don't do that anymore.

I've designed this tutorial series to consolidate all my learnings and teachings into a practical and results oriented program.

You don't need to have previous experience or training with piano or music, this tutorial series will go through everything in detail, starting with fundamentals and going all the way through complex topics that prepare you to work with other musicians or improve as a musician yourself. If you have piano experience, I hope this tutorial serves as a good refresher for you.

That being said, you will need a piano, digital piano or keyboard to practice along with. If you can borrow one for some time to try it out, that's the best. But if you must buy, some requirements are essential in your instrument. If it's a piano (grand or upright), that's perfect. If you have a digital piano, that will do great for this series. The instrument in the video series is a digital piano. But if you're getting a keyboard, the bare essential requirements for the keyboard is that it must have at least 61 keys and an input for the sustain pedal. We shall discuss in later videos about what the sustain pedal does. It is important to make sure that you are NOT buying a MIDI keyboard to for this program. If you are aware of what MIDI keyboards do and have used them before, it should be fine as long as the above mentioned 2 requirements are satisfied. MIDI keyboards are helpful for music production and are not necessarily the best instrument to learn piano on.

If you've trained with me before, the class notes that you find in these videos might be different from what you've received before. That is because the reference for these videos is western classical music theory. As you go through the tutorials, you will notice that the theory is easily transferrable to different instruments and musical practices.

There is not shortcut to getting better, but it doesn't mean you can't have fun on the way!
