In 1990 a mysterious drifter struck fear into the students and faculty at the University of Florida as students were meticulously murdered in their apartments on and near the campus in extremely violent ways. A widespread panic began to circulate the university. Upon hearing this story, the screenwriter for the hit horror film Scream used it as inspiration to write the plot for the film. Though the actual resemblance to real events is only a passing one, without the story of the Gainesville Ripper, there would be no Scream. This is that story.
