Memories from last year - May 31 2024

One year ago, it was a lovely last day of May at Rhodes Jordan Park. We walked around the lake on the trail. I stopped at the other side before we entered the forest and looked over the lake.



Suddenly, something caught my eye... Something with large, reddish orange wings laying low in the grass. BIG MOTH DETECTED! 🧐 I bent down to get a closer look. A wave of excitement went over me as I looked at this stunning creature in the grass. 🥳



I gently picked her up and she opened her spectacular wings. She was a silkmoth I had never seen in person before - A Tulip Tree Silkmoth! I was so excited to be seeing and holding one for the first time. She was very calm and after a few minutes, she slowly closed her wings and continued resting on my hand.



I continued the walk around the park with my new moth friend. I got some lovely pictures of her on my hand with the lake in the background. She ended going home with me. Stay tuned for more videos of her on June 1st and June 2nd 2024!
