Описание к видео Modern Rustic Outdoor Dining Table made with Reclaimed Wood | Ep. 5

This table base was made of 200 year old reclaimed barn wood. I purchased this wood from Reclaimed Wood Source in Huntington Park, CA. This was my first time using real reclaimed lumber and I didn't realize how expensive this stuff is!

After picking out a few beams and 2x4's, I began breaking down the beams into more manageable pieces, then finally cutting four pieces that would be the main legs of the table base. This design called for some half lap joinery, so I used a combination of my sliding miter saw, a router, and a chisel to create the half laps.

Because reclaimed lumber is so old, it's almost impossible to find a piece that is completely flat. I forgot to film myself during this process, but I ended up running the larger pieces through my planer using a planer sled to create a perfectly flat side I could reference off of. This exposed some of the new wood on the inside, so I had to distress and "age" it so it would match the natural look of the outside. For this, I used a technique I learned from ‪@dustylumberco‬ by using the Restorer tool to first round off the corners, then use a steel brush to pull out the soft grain, use an accelerator spray by Varathane, then sand that back using a flapper wheel.

I then pulled out some of the original dowels and used them as caps to hide the screws that I used. Once the main frame was done, I ripped down some 2x4's using my track saw and attached those for the aprons and cross supports using pocket screws. I finished the whole thing with a couple coats of Odie's Oil.

The client provided the top made of Cambria Quartz. This was my first time working with reclaimed lumber and I really like the look it gives and the story behind each piece.

What do you guys think? Do you like the look of reclaimed lumber? Could I have done something differently? What other wood working techniques could I have implemented? Leave me a comment!
