I generally hate these types of clicky farming games. There's no real skill, they are just mindless time sinks. The super dumbed down version of Sim City.

Having said that.. this one is about cars, car manufacturing, and it's extremely pretty.

First up, it's Gameloft, so as much a given it is that it will be extremely pretty, it should also be accepted that this thing is going to be overflowing with offers to buy your way out of the super slow grind by way of microtransactions. AND, Gameloft LOVE to force painful tutorials onto you from the moment you first load up.

The first 30 minutes or so if this video is literally the first 30 minutes of play. And it is interesting to see how nice and breezy everything appears to go... until I threw a spanner into the works and performed an unexpected replay of a race.. depleting my race credit by just one token. Being Gameloft, if it is monetised, they give you the absolute basics of those resources/tickets/whatever to get through the tutorial and get you hooked before the game grinds down to its much slower, realistic pace.

So there you are, needing to build components, build car parts, use those resources to service AI vehicles to EARN your race tickets, to then have a chance to go race again. All of those same components and parts are also needed at some stage to upgrade the power/performance levels of each of your cars... but you'll also need blueprints for each car to level/upgrade that car for an additional and separate upgrading process.

SOOOooo many layers of farming here.

And the racing is fake. It's press the screen to accelerate, let go to brake. That is it when you engage in the actual race events. It's just a novelty mini-game really. Thankfully you can click "AUTO" and "x3 SPEEDUP" and the AI takes care of it... and it is funny to watch, because the AI doesn't care about modulating speed, it just smashes through tight corners at top speed, sliding the car into the curb.. but as long as you are the overpowered car in the race, you will win. Even the fake lead the AI opponents ALWAYS have on you from the start... you will win.

Another funny, though sad, and very dishonest touch that is a key Gameloft trait... look at the timed micro offers... "ONLY 1 LEFT"... yeah.. only 1 of thousands of variant packages you are going to try and sell me and make me believe that each one is a a little different and a little better... AND that there is only 1 left of each of them.

There is also that common tactic of claiming it's a CRAZY GOOD DEAL... LOOK... 71% off... 90% off... AMAZING.

Seriously, if you do the math, some of those deals are claiming that the regular price that they considered "fair value" for a handful of in-game credits that will last a handful of upgrades is worth $70? Sometimes well over $100? You do a lot more in life, or in gaming, with those kinds of amounts than justify in-game credits that will be squandered within 60 seconds, and still put you in a position of needing more well within the hour, maybe within 10 minutes.

But, in summation, for a time wasting farmer and fake-sim... Overdrive City is actually kinda cool. The modelling of the cars is stunning as well. The game is really pretty. Just don't spend any real $$$ on this thing. Not a single cent... Gameloft, like literally every other successful "major" mobile developer/publisher is trying to rape your bank account/credit card/online-thing-of-real-world-funds.
