An Iranian gunship fires at a US Navy convoy, only for the USS Simpson, an FFG-7 class frigate, to return fire. That April of 1988 was the first time that this class of frigate was tested in battle–and it passed with flying colors. A great accomplishment given that the FFG-7 frigate was the first ship designed by computer–a true game changer in naval warfare.
