Pulitzer Prize-winning storyteller and National Geographic Explorer Paul Salopek has been retracing our ancestors’ ancient migrations on foot out of Africa and across the globe.

With the support of the National Geographic Society, Salopek began his walk
in 2013 in Ethiopia—humanity’s evolutionary “Eden” and hopes to complete his travels at the tip of South America, the last horizon discovered by our Stone Age ancestors, in 2027.

The journey will eventually take him to 31 countries and enable him to engage with the major stories of our time, from climate change and technological innovation to mass migration and cultural endurance.
