Living While Disfigured | Jordan Bennett | TEDxETSU

Описание к видео Living While Disfigured | Jordan Bennett | TEDxETSU

There are thousands of disfigured and visually different children born each day, yet they're othered from the visually typical norm with grave consequences. How does this affect not just disfigured children, but disfigured lives- and how can we improve it. Jordan was born with Goldenhar, granting her with a trifecta of deaf, disabled, and disfigured identities. As an artist, educator, and a storyteller she grew up searching for others like her, in school, work, and the media. Unsatisfied with what she found, Jordan prioritizes bringing light to the marginalization of disfigurement in society—starting with the stories she holds so dearly. If not for herself, but for the next kid looking for themselves in the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
