Baby’s First Shrine Visit with Our International Family! | Omiyamairi Japanese Tradition for Babies

Japan is known for its wealth of traditions, but did you know that there are even traditional ceremonies especially for babies? Today, we taking part in お宮参り (“Omiyamairi”), a baby’s first shrine visit, which takes place in a newborn’s first month (traditionally the ceremony is held at 31 or 32 days old for boys and 32 or 33 days for girls). See how beautiful the traditional baby kimono is, find out what happens when a baby is blessed by a shinto priest in an omiyamairi ceremony, and watch a little Japanese and British cultural exchange between our families with British Grandma in our after party!
