Highway Code 163 - leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds

That is approx the width of a car, (in between the bike and the overtaking car, not the kerb and the overtaking car!) Anything less is a close pass. Cycle cam is becoming more widespread throughout the UK.
