So you want to learn about honda engines. Well, you’ve stopped in the right place my friend!

K series, B series, D series what do they all mean?

We’re learning about cars for beginners.

If these videos are helping you, please consider subscribing and comment what car you’re driving.

I Know you guys are here to find out which one is the best for your car and… as I was doing my research, I found out that the best engine is actually subjective.

It depends on your budget and the goals you have for your car so i’ll try my best to break it down for you so its easier to make your decision.

First let me mansplain engine codes.

Every car manufacturer has a different name for the engines.

Some of those manufacturers use this same engine across multiple car models.

A way to check this is by learning the engines code or name.

For honda and a lot of other makes,

they have a Letter followed by a number and sometimes more letters.

The first letter can be seen as a way to classify a family of engines.

The numbers means the displacement or size of the engine in terms of Liters. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna bore you with the math.

The last letter generally tells the generation it is, as they get updated throughout the years.

Let me give you an example,

K20A

Where K is the Family, 20 is read 2.0L and A is the generation it is.

D Series: Popular engine choice is D16.

These engines are good if you’re on a small budget. But don’t expect to build anything high horsepower with it. They are Good for turbo charging as well. People reliably push the motor to about 250whp. You can get more but you have to see if it’s worth it price wise over swapping to a

B series.

A B Series swap, if you don’t already have one in your car, is the next step up but is going to cost you a little bit more. The most common swaps you’ll see is the B18 as it nets the best horsepower but also able to handle more horsepower. There is also a B20 that has more torque but doesn’t rev as high, losing out of horsepower potential.

K swaps are very popular as well and arguably the “best” but is also the most expensive of these 3 swaps.

These motors tend to make

the most power without forced induction over the other motors as well. But parts are harder to source and not many things are easy to swap.

If you’re on a tight budget but want a fun car, do a D series swap if you don’t already have one.

If you have a little more money to play with, go B series.

If you are a baller, go K series.

These are not all of the possible swaps. most honda motors are the equivalent of plug and play and because of that, you can do what’s called a frankenstein motor. this is where you take a LS (non v tec motor) and V tec motor and combine them.

or combining a K24 and a K20.

Hondas can be whatever you can imagine.
