Challenges and Triumphs in Inclusive Education for Spanish-Speaking Students

Although the U.S. has no official language, many children are not supported in learning their home language in addition to English. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US, and yet myths abound that suggest these children will face delays and challenges for growing up in a bilingual environment. This video describes and summarizes key issues that limit inclusive educational practices for Spanish-speakers. A summary of research from scientific consensus (including from research at the University of Oregon!) is presented that shows children should be supported in all languages that maximize their ability to participate in all aspects of their lives, including languages spoken at home.
