🌍 World Youth Skills Day 2025 | Youth Skills for Climate Resilience and Digital Inclusion in ASALs

Meet Abdihafit Ismail Ibrahim, a bold and visionary changemaker from Wajir County, Northern Kenya—one of the most arid and climate-vulnerable regions in the country.

As the Founder of Wajir Youth for Youth and Development, Abdihafit is leading community-driven solutions that blend climate education, digital empowerment, and the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), a rare but critical intersection of safeguarding and sustainability.

In a region where:

🔴 89% of the population depends on pastoralism,
🔴 Recurring droughts, desertification, and shrinking grazing fields devastate livelihoods,
🔴 Youth unemployment, harmful cultural norms, and climate migration worsen vulnerability...

Abdihafit is choosing a different path: climate education, mentorship, and digital skills as dignified alternatives to empower youth and restore agency to marginalised groups.

🎯 Through his organisation, he is:

✅ Raising climate change awareness at the grassroots level
✅ Mentoring youth and survivors of abuse with dignity
✅ Advocating for sustainable small businesses & governance
✅ Promoting digital access as a tool for adaptation and economic survival

💬 “We need to shift the conversation from charity to capability—climate action must empower youth with real skills to thrive,” says Abdihafit.

Despite his passion and commitment, he continues to face major challenges:

⚠️ Lack of consistent mentorship
⚠️ Limited access to digital tools and innovation hubs
⚠️ Inadequate funding and institutional partnerships
⚠️ Poor infrastructure for community-based climate learning
