Shasta Lake Sturgeon. A Catfisherman's Bycatch

Описание к видео Shasta Lake Sturgeon. A Catfisherman's Bycatch

This footage for this video was filmed long before I ever considered having a youtube channel. It's an ongoing account of my fascination with catfishing and land locked sturgeon. I get some pretty good shots of the two sturgeon I've caught while catfishing Shasta Lake. While they were not that uncommon in the 70's, their occurrence has definitely declined. Other than a few newspaper photos and a youtube from 2020, I'm aware of very little documentation since the 80's. Sturgeon were landlocked in Shasta when the dam was built in 1945. I am directly aware of only one subsequent stocking. With them nearing their life's end, what will come of their future? I cover more details in the video. Check it out! It's an interesting watch.

I think it's important for me to note that retention of Sturgeon in any tributary to the Sacramento River (including Shasta Lake) is forbidden by current regulations regardless of size. Any sturgeon incidentally caught while fishing for other species may not be removed from the water and and must be released.
