Highlights from my visit to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden on July 9, 2023.

Our day at the Cincinnati Zoo begins with a bang at the Kroger Cheetah Encounter show featuring the Wild Pups, Red River Hog, Serval and of course the world’s fastest land animal! In Africa, we’ll hear the iconic roar of the Lion before seeing Vultures, Painted Dogs, Meerkats and the world’s most famous family of Hippos. Birds of the World is home to a plethora of colorful, feathered friends, along with the unique looking Mata-mata turtle. Primates are the star of the Jungle Trails, from the large great apes to the small, nocturnal prosimians. In Rhino Reserve, there’s an abundance of fluffy gray Flamingo chicks, as well as Bongos and Okapis! We’ll make quick stops at Manatee Springs and World of the Insect, before going dark in Night Hunters, where we’ll find the elusive Pallas’s Cat, long-snouted Aardvark, and lesser known Ringtail cat (which is not actually a cat). Finally, we’ll cool off with one of their Malayan Tigers taking a dip in the pool in Cat Canyon.
