In this video, we are 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙨𝙮𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘 𝙉𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙭 (𝘼𝙏𝙉𝙍). The test involves the rotation of the head while the arms are extended. A 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 test is when the child is able to rotate his/her head without any movement/rotation of one or both arms.

Primitive reflexes are automatic stereotypic movements directed from the brainstem and require no cortical involvement (which is to say, no thought).

Children with 𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚍𝚒𝚜𝚘𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚛𝚜 comparable to 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦 as well as various other neurodevelopment disorders are known to have retained primitive reflexes, which then contribute to their symptoms and levels of dysfunction.

Observable social/learning signs of a retained ATNR include 𝚜𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚒𝚘𝚜𝚒𝚜 , ᑭOOᖇ ᕼᗩᑎᗪᗯᖇITIᑎG, difficulty expressing ideas in written form, difficulty with eye-tracking, difficulty with hand-eye coordination, difficulty with tasks that require crossing the midline (reading/writing), and difficulty with tasks that require both sides of the body.

To fix this, have your child lie on their belly, right arm and right leg bent at 90˚ flat against the ground. The other arm and leg are to remain straight and also flat on the ground. The head should be turned in towards the bent limbs. Stay in this position for 5 seconds, and then turn the head on the opposite side. Repeat on the other side. Perform this every day for 30 days.

The associated sensory systems needed to integrate this reflex is auditory, vestibular, visual and proprioceptive. This is why it is so important that every child sees a specialist in this field as early as possible.
