Dhokla | How to Make Soft and Spongy Dhokla | Dhokla Recipe | Best Gujarati Snacks

Dhokla is a kind of sweet and salty cake which is made out of gram flour and is steamed to get a fluffy texture. The Indian people's are crazy about this sweet or snacks. This spongy dish is originates from the Indian state of Gujarat, and has become a favourite across the country. It’s a low-calorie, healthy and protein-packed snack. It’s cooked with little or no oil and takes very little time to prepare.

Ingredients:

for Batter 👇

Gram flour - 200g
Sugar powder - 20g
Refined oil - 20g
Salt - 7g
Citric acid - 7g
Baking Soda - 7g

for Syrup 👇

Refined oil - 20g
Mustered seeds - 1 tbsp
Green chillies - 5-6
Sugar - 50g
Water - 200 ml
Green coriander (chopped) - 1/4 cup



1. Take out the gram flour in a bowl, now add sugar powder, salt and citric acid to it and mix the whole mixture together.

2. Now gradually add water into the mixture and mix it well then add oil and mix until it gets mixed into the Batter. Batter consistency should be like cake batter consistency, neither thick nor thin.

3. Finally, add baking soda and mix it well. You will see here, batter starts getting foamy, Don’t over mix, just give a quick mix.

4. Now pour the batter into the mould. Cook covered on a medium to high heat for 30-40 Minutes. Switch off the flame. Insert Knife or toothpick into the centre of dhokla, if it’s come out clean, that means your dhokla is ready.

5. Now put oil in a heated pan, then add mustard seeds and green chillies, then after frying a little, add sugar and water and bring to a boil. Then take it off the gas and let it cool down a bit.

6. Cut Dhokla in square pieces and pour tempering ingredients over the dhokla. Now your tasty dhokla is ready to serve. You can serve dhokla with coconut or green chutney.
